Google Featured Snippet

A featured snippet is Google's way of surfacing the best answer to a search query as directly as possible. Google pulls the answer from an existing webpage, typically one that is already ranking in the top five organic results, and displays it above organic listings. It sits below paid ads, but above everything else on the page.

Featured snippets come in a few different formats depending on what best suits the answer. It can be a paragraph, a bulleted or numbered list, or a table.

Because they sit at the very top of the organic results, featured snippets are a major visibility opportunity. The trade-off is that some users get the answer they need directly from the snippet and never click through to your site.

Sometimes, an AI Overview appears instead of a featured snippet.
